Hanwha Defence Australia required a new Melbourne headquarters to support rapid expansion linked to major defence programmes. The project demanded a workplace that could scale quickly, meet stringent compliance requirements and operate at the highest standards of security and governance. This was not a conventional office fitout; it required defence-grade security and compliance, multiple controlled access zones, ISO-aligned systems and reporting and an environment that supported recruitment in a highly competitive talent market, all delivered within tight timeframes.

The Challenge

The project was defined by complex security and compliance requirements, the management of sensitive information and operational protocols, and the need to leverage existing tenancy conditions rather than replace them.

All of this was delivered under significant programme pressure, with zero tolerance for error.

The Solution

Agero was engaged early in the process, supporting Hanwha through property evaluation and selection, fit-for-purpose assessments and early RFP input that demonstrated capability, rigour, and organisational maturity. Once appointed, we delivered the project under a design and construct model, assuming responsibility for spatial, compliance, and fit for purpose risk – an approach many contractors avoid, but one that provides clients with clarity and confidence.

The delivery included the design and construction of multiple secure access zones, ISO-aligned delivery systems, ESG-driven reuse of existing fitout elements and rigorous reporting and governance throughout the programme. Hanwha’s Melbourne headquarters is now a secure, high-quality workplace aligned with their global brand and operational requirements.
