After 25 years in one office, Hays moved into a new home designed to carry its culture forward and signal exactly where the business is heading next.

The Challenge

For 25 years, Hays’ office had been more than an address, it was where generations of recruitment consultants learned their craft and became the particular kind of high-performer the industry demands. Leaving it behind wasn’t a simple relocation, it was the retirement of a workplace that had shaped the culture as much as any leader or policy had.

Hays’ leadership saw the move as a genuine inflection point, a chance to say something to their own people about the direction the business was taking. The brief went beyond desks and meeting rooms – the space needed to help close-knit, high-performing teams bond, not just work.

Compounding the challenge, the new building’s fitout had been left behind by a previous tenant, testing whether reuse could sit comfortably in a high-premium-grade address without diluting the outcome.

The Solution

Agero approached the move as workplace strategy and change management first, construction second. Understanding what the new environment needed to do for Hays’ culture before any design decisions were made.

Rather than stripping the existing fitout and starting again, Agero worked to repurpose what the building already offered, honouring our sustainability commitments while giving Hays’ head office confidence that the investment was considered, not wasteful. Design and material decisions were led through with the client at every stage, rather than presented as a finished product.

The result is a workplace built for what’s next: a space Hays’ teams can genuinely bond in, and one that tells staff, candidates and clients exactly where the business is heading.
