Headspace, Melbourne

A 3,200 sqm relationship built over six years, turning a 20-person start-up office into a workplace for 240+ staff, without ever losing the culture that makes Headspace what it is.

COLOUR, CULTURE AND A CAUSE WORTH DESIGNING FOR

The Challenge

Headspace is a not-for-profit tackling one of the hardest issues there is – youth mental health – and every dollar in their budget needs to work as hard as their team does. When Agero first partnered with them, Headspace was a 20-person start-up looking for its first proper office. Six years and a number of projects later, that same relationship now spans over 240 staff and associated businesses across 3,200 sqm.

The brief never changed, even as the organisation grew: build spaces on a tight budget that still feel as warm, playful and human as the people working in them. For a team spending their days supporting young people through difficult moments, the office itself needed to be part of the relief, not just four walls to get through the day in.

The Solution

Agero delivered a turn-key design, construction and furniture solution across each stage of Headspace’s growth, working within an average build cost of $700 per square metre, proof that a tight budget and a distinctive space aren’t mutually exclusive. Every material and layout decision was made to stretch the budget further without the finish ever looking like a compromise.

Colour carries the design. Bright greens greet visitors at reception, a bold yellow kitchen anchors the social space, and pops of colour continue down the corridors, echoing Headspace’s own youth-facing branding. The result is a workplace that feels less like a typical office and more like an extension of the organisation’s culture – cheerful, open, and built for a team that shows up every day for a difficult cause.
