Breathing new life into Visy’s traditional site in Coburg

The Challenge

Post-COVID, Visy’s staff were scattered across multiple office locations and working remotely, prompting the opportunity to centralise operations at the Coburg site—a location rich in history but under-utilised. The site, while offering potential, presented several key challenges.

Over the years, it had become a patchwork of different eras and structures, with numerous ad hoc additions that created a disjointed and inefficient space. Additionally, the building contained hazardous materials like asbestos, which required careful remediation.

As a brownfield site, extensive clean-up and modernisation were necessary to bring it up to current standards. One of the most critical aspects of the project was the antiquated yet essential IT server room, which had to be carefully managed to ensure no disruption to business operations during the renovation process.

The Solution

Agero implemented a comprehensive design and construct model tailored to Visy’s specific needs, delivering a cost-effective solution that provided exceptional value. We completely renewed the building, removing asbestos and hazardous materials, and brought all ramps and floor levels into compliance with modern services. Internally, we created enhanced amenities that aligned with Visy’s office style, resulting in a functional and visually appealing workspace.

Externally, we undertook extensive civil works, upgrading the carpark, fencing, landscaping, and modernising water mains, sewerage, and stormwater systems. Special attention was given to the critical IT server room, ensuring it remained fully operational throughout the project, mitigating any potential disruptions. The project was finely calibrated to Visy’s needs, from initial quoting to selecting preferred contractors, processes, and staff, ensuring efficient and cost-effective delivery.

The result was a transformed office space that exceeded Visy’s expectations, revitalising the once outdated and under-utilised Coburg site into a vibrant, centralised hub for their operations.
